A New Career!

Why hello there! It’s been a while. I know. A lot has changed since I last posted. First, I slowed down my blog postings because I was ramping up my freelance writing gig. I really enjoyed writing about motherhood and life in Northern Virginia and loved the challenge that came with writing for different publications that required different styles. In a sense I was working my new “writing muscle” with the goal of writing for a national publication in a couple of years. I was featured in The Washington Post and Fox 5 which were great experiences.

But just as I was settling into my writing world, I heard a “knock, knock.” It was Opportunity and it came rapping on my door in the fall of 2016. It was a close family friend and my Keller Williams real estate agent, Pat Brosnan. She wanted me to join her successful team of agents in the Metro Platinum Group. I thought about it for a couple of weeks concluding that it was an opportunity I couldn’t resist. Why? Because:  1) Both of my kids will be in elementary school in the fall, 2) Pat has been named one of Washingtonian Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine’s best real estate agents in the DC area. She’s also a Top Producer of the Northern Virginia Association of Realtor’s (NVAR)’s Multi-Million Dollar Club. Bottom line- she’s a rock star. Plus, her integrity, honesty, and genuine nature are qualities I admire in anyone (especially in a mentor). And 3) I have the potential to make WAY MORE money than I would as a freelance writer.

I couldn’t feel more grateful to have Pat as my mentor and kick-ass Keller Williams McLean/Great Falls as my brokerage. As I explained to my kids: “Sometimes you just need to try. Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” What do I get for trying to use an idiom with a five and six year old? An onslaught of questions with occasional chuckles. “You’re now an astronaut??!!”

I’m still a SAHM with no nanny or regular babysitter. Now that I’m licensed and official, I ask myself, “How am I going to get work done this summer??” My answer is: just do it, Danielle. So I get up at 6 am until I have to start my mom duties and then work again when the kids go to bed. As my mom would say: one day at a time. And so far I’m loving it! I get to meet so many new people, learn a new industry, tour all sorts of homes, and help people.
