Great Country Farms’ Annual Cider Festival is our best excursion this year! When I first heard Bluemont, VA I lost motivation to go because it sounded so far away. I used to never want to go anywhere that took longer than 30 minutes because of the kids, but I’ve thrown that out the window. I’m in love with going to the country. We went from being on the highway to driving up a mountain in less than an hour (husband was speeding though)!
When we arrived, we took a tractor ride to the apple orchard, which the boys loved. And once we delved deeper into the farm, I couldn’t believe all the activities they had for kids: farm animals, a couple of playgrounds, a maze, a jumping pillow (Flash’s favorite), a bouncy horse race track, slides, rope swings, and more! We had lunch there and enjoyed cider donuts, pulled pork sandwiches, and fresh cider. We can’t wait to go again next year!
As far as the pounds of apples we picked? My sis-in-law gave me a great recipe because we laughed at my prospect of baking an apple pie! Slice a couple of apples, melt a little bit of butter in a skillet, and sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar. If you want to be super healthy, add ice cream J
Quote of the week from Flash: (After telling him I was giving him Chinese cookies) “Mommy, these are jyna chips?” Ohh lordy, it starts already…
